Houses of Parliament



The Houses of Parliament is a palace in London. This House has two big towers, the Victoria Tower and the Elizabeth Tower with Big Ben.  On October 16th 1834 a fire destroyed the biggest part of the palace. Around the palace there is the Victoria garden. The palace is five stories high, has 1100 rooms and 100 stairs and floors, they are 4.8 km long. On the ground floor there are offices, dining rooms and pubs. On the first floor there are the two saloons of Parliament rooms, lobbies and libraries. On the second floor there is the conference room of the parliament boards. In a straight line from south to north there is the Robing Room, the Royal Gallery, the Prince´s Chamber, the Lord´s Chamber, the Central Lobby, the Members´ Lobby and the Commons Chamber. The Westminster Hall is next to the Commons Chamber. On the third floor and in the fourth floor there are more conference rooms. A group of security controls are in the palace. Only people of the United Kingdom can visit the palace and people from other countries are not allowed.
